The grade of Mars and Jupiter God’s Glory and the Fighting Arm
Each of Psyche’s tasks is more daunting than the one that preceded it. Aphrodite next requires her to fill a flask from the “dark waters of a black spring” located at the top of a steep mountain. Not only is the task physically impossible for an unaided girl, the spring is protected by forked-tongued dragons. The spring water itself hisses at Psyche to discourage her. The grade of Mars and Jupiter is about personal daring, will, and vision. Every day, mere mortals accomplish feats said to be physically or scientifically impossible, through the power of vision (Jupiter) and courage in the face of fear (Mars).
Jove’s eagle appears and performs the treacherous task for Psyche. Every chart has a Jupiter, which reveals a point where the client has a surplus of “god-stuff,” or luck, vision, and abundance. Even Jove’s eagle has some difficulty pulling off this tricky feat, and dissembles a bit in order to pacify the guard of dragons and the resisting waters. Wherever Jupiter is in the chart, we have the power to best dragons with unshakable faith and confidence.
Mars is not a popular archetype in our culture, though we see its unhealthy, unconscious manifestations everywhere. Mars signifies competition, and events which produce winners and losers. Anyone who has ever participated in a sporting event or political race has felt this energy. Because we live in a society with other people, we have to learn to curb our aggressive tendencies. But events continually arise which ask us to pit our wills against those of others. There are both healthy and ethical ways to do this. Though the serpents and the defiant water unite in attacking Psyche, the task is accomplished, the sacred water procured, by her willingness to face down aggression and opposition.
The individual grade of Mars and Jupiter is suited to the client at the mid-point of a big project, who may be in need of a reminder of his/her higher vision. All Great Works and attempts to change society attract oppositional forces, and this reading will pinpoint where the client is likely to experience an adversary. Clients experiencing volatile relationships with family or co-workers could also benefit from this reading. Oftentimes our greatest adversary is the person staring back at us in the mirror. The grade of Mars and Jupiter offers a focused look at how the archetypal King can work harmoniously with the inner Warrior.
