Astrology Fundamentals

Greetings friends!

Last year I had the distinct pleasure to launch my year-long introductory astrology series online at the Philosophical Research Society.  I met many new students (and clients) via this channel, and it was an overwhelmingly positive experience.  Unfortunately, PRS has decided to cease all online classes at the school for the foreseeable future.  My series began at the Spring Equinox of 2023, and I was counting on offering the fourth and final installment of the series in the Winter of 2024.  To accommodate all the students who were looking forward to the final class, “Astrology Fundamentals,” I will offer it as a Zoom course in February.  You will receive a pre-recorded lecture each week for four weeks, along with supporting materials in PDF format.  As before, I will host a weekly Zoom each Sunday at 2pm Pacific time, which will give you the opportunity to discuss the week’s materials, and to workshop the concepts with your own natal chart.  It is my understanding that PRS will eventually make the three previous classes, “Planets,” “Signs,” and “Houses,” available as passive offerings (in other words, the course materials without the live component).

The concepts included in “Astrology Fundamentals” represent a sort of grab-bag of interpretive techniques that don’t fit neatly into a themed course as with the other three classes.  However, that’s not to say these techniques are not important!  On the contrary, I believe these fundamental techniques will serve as a sort of “finishing school” that will allow you to get the most accuracy out of your interpretations.  Collectively, these techniques will help you to answer the all-important and ever-present question of how much weight to afford each planetary position in a natal chart.  The Ascendant and the Midheaven definitely skew any chart toward their respective themes.  A solid understanding of aspects will enable you to gauge how much freedom a given planet has to express itself.  Incorporating the lunar nodes into your interpretation is a game-changer, in terms of evaluating strengths and weaknesses in the chart.  Finally, we will consider overall elemental balance and chart style as a basis for decision-making in chart analysis.  The course dates and themes are provided below.

  1. Week beginning January 29th, February 4th discussion:

    Ascendant and Midheaven

  2. Week beginning February 5th, February 11th discussion:

    Aspects

  3. Week beginning February 12th, February 18th discussion:

    Lunar Nodes

  4. Week beginning February 19th, February 25th discussion:

    Elemental Balance and Chart Style

Please note, it is fine to miss any or all of the Sunday Zooms, if your primary interest is in the pre-recorded lectures.  However, I find that we all learn more when we get into the weeds of interpretation as a class, and are able to verify the chart analysis with the chart native!  The class size for previous classes has ranged from 10-30 people, small enough that all who attend will get a chance to ask questions about interpreting their own chart.

The total cost for this four-week course is only $100, in keeping with the initiative of PRS to make metaphysical education available to all.  I’m happy to offer this low-cost course to my community to see you through to the “intermediate” level of astrological competency!  “Astrology Fundamentals” is open to everyone, from beginner to intermediate astrologers looking to hone their techniques.  However, you will get the most out of the course if you already have a working knowledge of the signs, planets, and houses.  Button to register and pay is located at the top of the blog. See you in February!

Let’s get 2024 off to a brilliant start!
